And the winner ...

... of the "No Shit Sherlock Award" of the year goes to *drum roll* Mark McGwire.
Seriously, when you saw the footage of his interview, did anyone say "OMG, I can't believe it!" I'll answer that, hell no, you didn't.
I'm really, the dude kept telling the same lie for more than a decade that he wasn't taking steroids. I'm not saying we believed it, but he told the same lie. That's how you're supposed to lie. You tell a lie until YOU believe it!
When dude said he wasn't on anything, baseball fans all over the world collectively turned their heads and hit McGwire with a "C'mon, Son." Just look at the pictures over the years.
Here, you see McGwire with Jose Canseco who admitted in his book, "Juiced" that he introduced ol' boy to the juice and even injected him with it. Now, if you look at them both now, it's obvious these dudes were on something besides carbs and weightlifting.
Granted when you're younger, your metabolism is faster and it is easier for you to keep your weight down. When you get older and particularly playing a game as slow as baseball, one can expect to gain a bit of weight. They may even beef up. But you don't expect them to gain their own body weight in muscle.
McGwire went from being a skinny kid to having a tree stump or a neck. Dude straight looks like if you would decapitate him, you could count the rings to determine his age.
Now there's this huge outrage because he finally came clean. McGwire coming clean about steroid use is like Rosie O'Donnell coming out of the closet. We knew, we just didn't want to talk about it because nobody gave a crap. Nobody still does. If you notice the newscasters, they are straight glossing over the story.
"In sports today, Mark McGwire is FINALLY coming clean about his steroid use ..."
*smh* Not that your big scary ass was ever in danger of going to Cooperstown, this will ensure that your ass ain't even welcome there. I don't care that he used "performance enhancing drugs," I'm pissed that he tried to insult my intelligence.
Hell, performance enhancing drugs should be the cornerstone of any professional sport. I said this last year. I'll be damned if I spend my hard earned money to see you play a mediocre game. I can go to the nearest high school and watch that.
You'd better be trying to enhance your performance, hell, for $47.50, you'd better show me some shit I ain't never seen before. I wanna see you hit a grand slam every time you step up to the plate. Dammit, I wanna see you make a triple play by your damn self! Something!

He's sorry ...

Dear Panthers, I quit you.

This relationship has become too much for me to handle. *sniffling* I simply don't trust you anymore.
Every week, I tune into the game with the best of intentions. I sit there with my chips and Kool-Aid waiting for kick off. It always starts well. Then before I know it, it's the second half and you turn into a Pop Warner team - a bad one. I'm always so happy until the middle of the third quarter. That's when the tears start.
I can't keep going to work every Monday with puffy eyes telling my co-workers I "fell." Something tells me they've stopped believing me. I just don't see where we went wrong.
We've been together since '97. That's a long time. We've been through so much together: making the playoffs our inaugural year. The NFC Championship. The Super Bowl the same year as NippleGate. Those were fun times.
But just as there have been good times, there have been horrible ones too. The 4-12 season in the Dom Capers era. Rae Carruth's terrible game of Hide n' Seek. Losing Fred Lane to a crazy ass wife. And now, Jake "Mr. Bojangles" Delhomme's pick throwing ass and John Fox's unwillingness to bench him.
At the moment, we are currently 4-6. Delhomme has thrown 14 interceptions. Explain to me how we have a Pro Bowl wide receiver in Steve Smith and two Pro Bowl-worthy running backs in D'Angelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, yet, we are still 4-6.
I can't handle this abuse anymore. Every time I threaten to walk away, you always straighten up and win a game or two. And as soon as I get comfortable, something goes awry. I mean, what can I do better? Am I not cheering loud enough? Could I have said something?
This just isn't working for me anymore. Until we can get some consistency, bench Delhomme and get rid of Foxy, I'm afraid we're done. I'm tapping out for the season. I still love you, but I can't be with you anymore. I'm drained - emotionally. I'm gonna get some help. You should too. For next season, I mean. In the form of Michael Vick.
I think he (and a new offensive coordinator) could really revamp the team. But right now, we need a break. This isn't goodbye. It's just, so long. You know, for the season. It just might be really awkward if I hang around this year, y'know, since my heart's not in it. Tell the guys it's not their fault. Well, not all of 'em. I put the blame square on Mr. Bojangles and the offensive line for not protecting him better.
We'll see each other again - soon. I mean, next year's not too far away. In the mean time, you might hear something about me cheering for the Colts. Don't listen to that. It's just a rumor. You know how people "talk." I don't really love them. But I don't like you very much right now and I need a way to spend my Sundays. They seem to have room on the bandwagon and I plan to ride it all the way to the Big Game.
Don't feel bad, I simply can't watch you anymore this season. I hope you understand. I wish you well.

Love,

Smarty.

Athletes & Flu Shots

After a dozen Cleveland Browns missing practice with flu like symptoms, the NFL decided to change some policies. If a team has at least six players unable to play because of the illness, it can promote players from the practice squad to replace them. A club can receive a maximum of eight of these roster exemptions. The NBA, NHL, and MLB currently do not have policies of an entire team being hit with with flu like symptoms but things may change, especially in the NBA since the six of the 20 Cleveland Cavaliers players in training camp missed practices or exhibition games at various times because of flu-like symptoms. Right now there are no exemptions in place that would allow teams to put swine-flu sufferers in that category to free up cap space.

With the Swine Flu outbreak should the leagues change their policies???

Should they make it mandatory that every player take the vaccine especially after a Washington Redskins Cheerleader was crippled after being vaccinated???

Thoughts???
